Microsoft Zune

Just catching up on all the news opportunities I've missed. This post is about the Zune, the new mp3 player being brought out by Microsoft. It's still in development though, so don't get too excited. It does look OK...I guess, but seeing as I bought an iPod, theres probably some legal mumbo jumbo in that bloody Terms and Conditions that says I have to like the look better. Well they do look cool.

Heres a Zune pic for you. Anyone noticed how close the names Zune and iTunes are? Does Microsoft think we are so stupid so as not to notice that? Not only that, but rumours are flying that it wont be compatible with Windows Media Player's own Plays for Sure program. I would pay to see Microsoft be that hypocritical. I have...35 cents (Australian cents!) so far. Any donations? Anyone? Fine.

Although (since the bottom half of my iPod nano is screwed. Really mega chibi-screwed) I want another mp3 player, I really think I'd rather get a pda. 35 cents in, $999.65 to go! I've had my go with mp3 players; and they're bloody bloody annoying. Game consoles on the other had are better, mostly because I got a huge discount. Let me regale you:-

I'd gotten really sick of the GBA because of it's lack of backlighting. This starts to be an issue when you start to wish your eyes merely felt like they were on fire. So I got together my $150 and happily waltzed down to my local Target. I went it, picked up the cute little GBA: SP box and skipped (yes, yes, and no) all the way to the little electronics counter. So I paid for my SP, and when the guy looked in his drawer, he said he was all out, but that there would be some at the front counter. So I paid the money, got a reciept off him to take to the front desk, and the guy gives me a DS. I was bloody amazed, since the box is, like, twice the size, obviously different, and heavier, but I didn't stand around to ask questions, so I took it and went home. Ah memories.

My iPod on the other hand was a struggle from day 1, or possibly several weeks before. I went to Dick Smith, and bought one with several dead pixels. Dick Smith then proceeded to explain for 10 mins that Apple does not have a very good dead pixel policy so we can't take it back, now go away you little yellow bird. Eventually they swapped it for another one, but Great Zombie Jesus was that annoying. Ah well. Let's see what the Zune's like!

Hey Tyler, just dropping by. I think Microsoft have waited a bit too long to put out an MP3 player of their own, by now most people already have their own.

But hey, if my iPod decides not to wake up one day, I might look into getting one. Provided it doesn't have the regular level or Microsoft software 'Quality'. If it works with iTunes then hey, even better.

See you round,
-Ben

Yeah, that's pretty true, they have left it ages. And a Microsoft product that doesn't work with their own 'Plays for Sure' program - blech. And if it works with iTunes, or has some form of program (Wikipedia) then theres a huge user base right there waiting to upgrade their mp3 players. Well, in a few years they will. The concept art does look pretty cool.

It looks to me like they've leeched from the iPod's wheel design. Like they did for the new Media Player design.

On a plus, it has a really big screen.
